Cainiao Group, the logistics arm of the Alibaba Group and leader in cross-border e-commerce logistics, announced the opening of five new self-managed logistics warehouses in Spain, specifically in Getafe (Madrid), Bizkaia, Asturias, Mallorca and A Coruña.
This expansion, which includes the largest warehouse in Getafe with 725 m², seeks to satisfy the growing demand for last mile deliveries and improve the quality of service of Cainiao’s express network in the country.
Founded in 2013, Cainiao has established itself as a reference in e-commerce logistics. The company’s objective is to transform the future of logistics worldwide, working in both import and export and providing services to Alibaba Group platforms, such as AliExpress and Tmall Global.
Cainiao landed in Spain in 2021 with a sorting center in San Fernando de Henares (Madrid), equipped with automated sorting technology and capable of processing up to 20,000 packages per hour. In addition, part of this center functions as a distribution center for Spanish eCommerce companies, which demonstrates its commitment to the integration and support of local commerce.
With the acquisition of EcoScooting in 2022, Cainiao has significantly improved its service network in Spain. Thus, currently, the Cainiao network covers 47 provinces throughout Spain, including the three island provinces (Balearic Islands, Las Palmas and Santa Cruz de Tenerife).
Its main sorting center in Madrid facilitates deliveries in one day in 23 cities, including Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia, and in two days in the rest of the country. In addition, the company offers weekend deliveries in the main urban areas, thus responding to the logistical demand of the growing e-commerce market.
As the company explains in the last year, Cainiao’s own network has seen exponential growth, peaking during periods of high demand such as 11/11 and Black Friday, with an 800% increase in volume in comparison with the same period of the previous year.
